The town of Parkes is situated on undulating plains west of the NSW Great Dividing Range. Parkes is a progressive country town and home to the CSIRO's radio telescope better known as "The Dish", after ithe Australian movie of the same name. The views of Parkes from Memorial Hill are spectacular.
Parkes NSW has much to offer the visitor. The Parkes Elvis Festival is held annually on the 2nd weekend in January attracting 100's of Elvis impersonators. The Parkes Country Music Spectacular is held on the Labour Day long weekend in October.
If you prefer something more attune with nature take a hike through the Goobang National Park. Smell the roses on a visit to the lavender and rose gardens at Tyndall's Lavender Corner. If history is more to your liking, then a visit to the Pioneer Park Antique Machinery Museum is where you will see some great examples of early farm machinery, including the only Reins tractor in Australia.
