Yass has become a very pleasant town after the Hume Highway bypass. Many guests stay in Yass because accommodation here is cheaper than accommodation in Canberra - a 45 minute drive.

Yass is a pleasant country town with a rich history. In the old days, Yass was at the centre of Australia's wool industry.  Today, Yass's cool climate provides for a thriving wine growing region. Where there's wine, good food, art and tourism follow.

Yass has become known for its artist colony. YASSarts runs the CLASSIC YASS weekend and the ‘Arts Trail’ which runs over both Saturday the 5th and Sunday the 6th of November 2011 featuring the arts & culture of the Yass Valley Shire. Yass has loads of established galleries featuring local artists year around.

For outdoor adventure, Yass has a lot to offer: water skiing, fishing or bird watching at nearby Burrinjuck Waters State Park, or take a hike on the Hume and Hovel Walking Track.

Finding Our Yass Motel

Yass is located on the Hume Highway; 3 hours from Sydney and 45 minutes from Canberra. At Yass, the Barton Highway takes you from the Hume Highway into Canberra. Colonial Lodge Motel is on the Canberra side of Yass 5 minutes from the Town Centre.

Take the Barton Hwy from Hume Hwy and exit at Yass turn off onto Yass Valley Way. Continue into Yass and after crossing Grand Junction Rd you will see Colonial Lodge on the left at the corner of MacDonald St.
