Things to do in Forbes NSW:
Forbes is a country town with some fine parks and gardens and of course Lake Forbes, which bisects the town. The lake has lovely grassed banks, lots of magnificent shade trees, picnic spots, walking and cycling tracks, abundant wildlife, playground and toilets. Forbes has a friendly, inviting atmosphere and has many fine historic buildings, many of which retain their original appearance.Forbes is famous for its connections with the bushranger Ben Hall. During the early 1860's, it is said that over 8100 kg of gold was turned up by the miners that came to the area. A number of bush rangers, including Frank Gardiner, Ben Hall and Johnnie Gilbert, harassed the miners attempting to rob them of their gold. After the bulk of the gold was removed, the town did not fade away. It possessed the advantage of being located on the main overland stock route between Victoria and Queensland and largely returned to its agricultural interests.
Other points of interest include:- The Forbes Show held in September, the Festival of Roses in November, the Jazz Festival in January and the Bush Traditions Folk Festival in August. The Forbes Hang-gliding Championships are held each January.
