Deniliquin is a small county town on the Edward River, a branch of the Murray River, where a series of lagoons snake off into parkland and state forest. There is a footbridge across a creek opposite the Town Hall in Cressy St which leads to an island wildlife sanctuary. On the island sanctuary you will find kangaroos, possums, bats, and plenty of birds amidst the towering river red gums. The sanctuary is also a good place to start the riverside walk to the popular swimming spot McLeans Beach.

Deniliquin lies at the centre of the largest area under irrigation in Australia and produces a variety of yields including rice, wool, dairy products, mutton, barley, wheat, vegetables and fruit, cattle and timber. Deniliquin also hosts a great Easter Festival and street parade, bowls and golf championships, as well as a rodeo and tennis championships and a Rotary Art Exhibition.

Deniliquin wrote itself into history in 1999 claiming the Guinness Book of Records title for the largest parade of legally registered utes in the world. Each year, thousands of people flock to the town for the world record breaking Deni Ute Muster. Around 20,000 are expected this year, to witness the smashing of the 2007 record of 6235 utes. The two-day jam-packed event sees country music stars, competitions galore, bull rides, a Ute spectacular, staged entertainment and heaps of great family fun.

Take a drive north to explore the fertile countryside, 26 kms north-west of Deniliquin via the Wakool Rd, you will find riverside gardens and picnic facilities at Stevens Weir, while if you head north-east along the road to Conargo, you will come to the Galveston Lakes Water Ski Park.
