Murray River Motel in Swan Hill is a comfortable friendly motel in the Murray River town of Swan Hill, right on the VIC/NSW border. A short stroll to the river will take you to the award winning historical Pioneer Settlement and the Swan Hill town centre.
If you are arriving to Swan Hill by train or coach, we will meet you at the station and drop you back there when you leave us.
Accommodation at this Swan Hill motel is all ground floor with off street parking. Five of rooms are rated 4 star and the remaining eleven are 3½ star including the 2 bedroom self contained family unit. All rooms at Murray River Motel have queen size beds and all the usual facilities that you expect to find in a quality Golden Chain motel.
You can choose from a comprehensive range of reasonably priced continental and/or cooked breakfasts delivered to your room from 7:00am. For early workers we can deliver cooked breakfasts from 6:30am by arrangement. On request we are also happy to provide packed lunches for workers who may be working on a job where there are no lunch facilities.
Centrally positioned in the motel is a fully tiled 10 metre in ground pool set in a peaceful garden courtyard with shaded tables and chairs. Nearby is a gazebo with a modern gas BBQ which is free to all guests. We are happy to provide you with all your plates, cutlery, sauce etc. and even a meat pack at cost if you give us sufficient notice.
Things to Do in Swan Hill:
A pleasant stroll along the track that meanders along the banks of the Little Murray River and starts just a few steps from your back door will take you to the acclaimed Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement. Here you can wander through a typical early Australian village comprising over 50 historic buildings including shops and traditional village trades people. Be sure to take a trip on the Paddle Steamer Pyap before you leave. Perhaps you could grab a meal at the nearby RSL or Swan Hill Club then return to the Pioneer Settlement after sunset to the eerie Sound and Light Show.The Murray Downs Golf and Country Club offers a courtesy bus pickup and will take visitors across the border about 5 km to their lush 18 hole championship golf course. The club also has delicious meals daily, poker machines and great entertainment every night ranging from bingo to the Rock and Roll Club night and guest bands.
Several pleasant self drive tours can fill in the day. The unique Catalina Flying Boat Museum at Lake Boga is a must to visit, as is a trip to sample the wares at our great local wineries, Bullers and Andrew Peace. A visit to the working Pheasant Farm and Aviary and the organic Sonré Farm will fill your shopping bag with scrumptious fresh local produce. One of the first brick homesteads to be built in Australia is the heritage listed Tyntynder Homestead and it is open for inspection by appointment.
Sporting pursuits are also well catered for in the region with exceptional facilities for tennis, golf, swimming, canoeing, fishing, water skiing, cycling, trotting & horse racing.
Swan Hill’s airport is a convenient stopover for all types of aircraft and enjoys an active aero club and flight instruction. There are many ultralight and sports aircraft in the area as well as general aviation planes.

Finding Our Motel in Swan Hill
Centrally located on the Victoria/New South Wales border, Swan Hill is right on the banks of the Murray River in the heart of the Murray Valley Tourist Belt. The town of 10,000 locals enjoy great weather all year round.Swanhill is 3½ hours north of Melbourne, 2¼ hours east of Mildura, 2 hours west of Echuca and an easy 5 hour drive from Adelaide’s eastern suburbs. Swan Hill is well serviced by frequent daily train and coach services.
If you are coming from the south, Murray River Motel is on the right immediately opposite the Swan Hill Tourist Information Bay. From the north we are the first motel on your left after the ‘Golden Arches’.
