Brisbane
Brisbane is the capital of Queensland with a resident population of over 2 million making Brisbane one of Australia's largest cities. Brisbane is south of the tropic zone, but maintains a pleasant climate year around. The Brisbane River divides the city and Brisbane is approx 23 kilometres up river from its mouth at Moreton Bay and the Pacific Ocean.
The Port of Brisbane, on the lower reaches of the Brisbane River, is the 3rd most important port in Australia. Container freight, sugar, grain, coal and bulk liquids are the major exports.

Other universities which have campuses in Brisbane include the Australian Catholic University, Central Queensland University, James Cook University, JMC Academy, University of Southern Queensland and the University of the Sunshine Coast.
The Ekka, or the Royal Queensland Show, is a 10 day event held each year August at the Brisbane Exhibition Ground. The Ekka is Queensland's largest agricultural show.
