Apollo Bay
As you wind your way down Victoria's famous Great Ocean Road, you'll find yourself in the seaside village of Apollo Bay. This popular destination is about halfway between Melbourne and Portland at the western end of the Great Ocean Road.
Apollo Bay small village with around 1500 residents. Apollo Bay has a rich history; originally settled for the vast timber resources in the local Otway Ranges and later becoming an important fishing port. A visit to the Apollo Bay 's marina will offer you a catch of the day that includes crayfish, shark, whiting, flathead and snapper. Enthusiastic amateurs will not be disappointed by the rock and beach fishing.
Apollo Bay is not all about surfing, fishing and beaches! A 10 minute drive out of Apollo Bay will take you into the Otway Ranges and the Otway National Park where you'll find a variety of bushwalks to suit every level of fitness. The area is a magnificent example of coastal rainforest with many tracks for bushwalking such as the Grey River Scenic Reserve and Walk (23 km east of Apollo Bay), and the Elliot River Walk (10 km south-west of town). Some favourite picnic spots include the Barham Paradise Scenic Reserve and Mariners Falls and the breath taking Barham River Valley.
