Cape Liptrap - Wilsons Promontory

The southern most point of the Australia's mainland is Wilsons Promontory (also known as 'the Prom'). Wilson's Promontory is the largest coastal wilderness area in Victoria with 130 km of coastline marked by granite headlands, mountains, forests and fern gullies. Located within 2 hours drive of Melbourne, the Prom Country is an ideal weekend getaway!

Wilson’s Promontory National Park is Victoria's most beautiful park featuring pristine beaches, wild forests and nature at it’s best. Visitors to the national park seeking accommodation will mostly find camping and basic cabins inside the park boundary. Nearby towns such as Yanakie, Sandy Point and Walkerville all provide accommodation with easy access to Wilson's Prom.

Tidal River, 30 km inside the park boundary, is the focus for Wilson's Prom tourism and recreation. Tidal River is the main river, which runs into Norman Bay swelling with the tide (hence the name 'Tidal River'). The viewing platform at the summit of Mount Oberon offers a unique vantage point to view this dramatic and beautiful meeting of land and sea.

Nearby is the beautiful beach of Walkerville South.  Visit the remains of the old historic lime kilns, take the board walk behind the kilns to neighbouring Walkerville North and visit the old settlers cemetery on the way.  This pristine coastal retreat has it’s own little beach tucked into the coast of Waratah Bay.  A perfect place to swim, fish, snorkel, dive or just fossick amongst the beautiful rock pools.

Cape Liptrap Lighthouse is located in the Cape Liptrap National Park and offers sweeping views to Venus Bay and out to Bass Strait.  Watch the whales go by. Waratah bay extends from Cape Liptrap, right around past Walkerville, Waratah Bay Township, Sandy Point and Wilson's Promontory.
